It Can Only Get Better

I did it.

I got over myself and just did it.

I signed up for the Shelter Island 5k run/walk.

I also signed up my husband.

I am missing running like crazy, and everything that goes with it, even the sore muscles, blisters, getting up at the crack of dark to run, the track club, the races, the smell of new running shoes fresh out of the box, the smell of old muddy running shoes with the treads all worn off, all of my running garb, and my stop watch with the heart rate monitor. I even miss Gu. I also REALLY missed out on the run events this summer and felt a little wistful when I read about other runners training and events. I have about a month to get ready for a new PW - personal worst, but it can only get better after that, right? See you there, and save a seat for me at the post event brunch.

I'm so excited for you!!! And I think you should be getting ready for a NPB (new personal best) or a NHPB (new hip personal best) or something like that. I still send healthy thoughts your way on almost every single run, and can't wait till we run together!!!

Hurray! You'll be racing when I'm doing the Big Sur Half. I'm going to dedicate my race to you.

Do you follow the Black Knight? Stephano had a bad accident and it affected his running, too. He finally started running again, although it wasn't like his old days. The important thing is to be running. Good luck!

That's great!! November is a perfect time for a 5K. You have lots of time to build up...no such thing as a PW if you're out there it's a great thing!!

That's the way! Leslie's right too -- after a major injury, you get to start from scratch so there are no personal bests or worsts, just new beginnings.

I need to sign up for that race...I keep forgetting.

Yay for you! You are going to do great - no worries about PW, because you now have a new benchmark. You can record PR's from pre-injury and PR's from post-injury. Life is good!

I'm sure you'll love that run. I'm doing a 5k and a 10k that day. We get a little break in between. Of course, the faster you are, the longer the break.

Leslie,
I'm looking at a PW as a positive thing, because it can only get better!

Dori,
Thanks! That's sweet of you to do! I haven't been following his blog but I'll have to check it out.

Katie,
Thanks, thanks, thanks!

Shosh,
This is the first event I'll be doing since the surgery in May. A PW is Ok. It's a starting place. :)

Anne,
A PW isn't a bad thing. It's a starting point. :) I hope to see you there!

Barbie2be,
Winner! Good for you getting your friend out for a walk! Pendelton is about a good 45 minutes up I-5 from us. We're not in direct line of the smoke, but we're getting some ash. A few other smaller fires have started. I hope this doesn't get out of hand like it did last year. It's just so dry out...

Rachel,
Thanks! I'm looking forward to it!

Michelle (BOP),
As I've said before, a PW isn't such a bad thing. It's a starting point. Life IS good. I'm able to participate in an event! Yay!

Pat,
Great! We'll be running together, sort of. That's an interesting thing about the break. Good luck with your run. I've participated in this event before and it's a favorite.

Yay! I'm so happy for you. No matter what happens it will be a personal best coming back to running after what you've been through!! Thanks for checking on me. Life itself has been a bit much for me lately so my blog suffered, but it's settling down some now.
