Happy Halloween!

Milestones - Miles Davis
PEACE

Last night was date night with my husband. For the first time in ages I had buffalo wings and a Grey Goose martini. I'm starting to wonder if that combination of food and drink caused my weird dream. I was back in college and Tim Gunn was my Shakespeare Literature teacher, and the class was supposed to be reading A Midsummer Night's Dream, but no one could find it in their books.
How can the winner not win?

Over at Pinkdumbbells.com, I mentioned that I had signed up for the 5k and challenged the other members to join me on November 9, but to do a 5k event in their area or just go the 5k distance on their own. Much to my surprise, the idea is growing. Maggie even had a blog post about making your own 5k race, and making a donation to your charity of choice. The Shelter Island 5k run/walk I'm participating in supports the The 5k I'm in supports the Injured Soldiers Program (Injured US Military) San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation. Others are selecting to do their own 5k and donating what ever money they would have paid for a 5k event to a charity - such as their local ASPCA. The great thing about making your own 5k is that you can place first in your age group and over all, and win all the prizes! Heh. Any one else out there wanna join us? November 9, 2008 is the date!
I am missing running like crazy, and everything that goes with it, even the sore muscles, blisters, getting up at the crack of dark to run, the track club, the races, the smell of new running shoes fresh out of the box, the smell of old muddy running shoes with the treads all worn off, all of my running garb, and my stop watch with the heart rate monitor. I even miss Gu. I also REALLY missed out on the run events this summer and felt a little wistful when I read about other runners training and events. I have about a month to get ready for a new PW - personal worst, but it can only get better after that, right? See you there, and save a seat for me at the post event brunch.

This afternoon, after work, I was just relaxing, watching The Food Network. The grand kid came in and wanted to see what I was watching. At that particular time, Giada De Laurentiis was on, making chocolate pizza. The grand kid's eyes became huge. "Mimi?" ... "Can we make that?" ... "We need to buy..." and then he listed EVERYTHING, exactly, that we needed to make the chocolate pizza. After that he was glued to The Barefoot Contessa and Paula Deen. I was thinking he was just looking for the desserts, but no. He was even intrigued with blue cheese going on to a hamburger. After a time, I turned off the TV so he could go play and get ready for dinner. A few hours later he asked me "Can we watch the cooking shows again?" I guess we'll be making chocolate pizza this weekend.
