Remember When

Most daytime TV shows don't float my boat, however I'm a sucker for anything to do with cooking. While getting some major closet cleaning finished, I had regular network TV on. Each show had a segment about cooking Thanksgiving dinner, mostly all about the turkey. For me, the turkey or me making the food isn't the hard part. It's everything else. I think I've mentioned before, but it was a catastrophe when my mother-in-law did not make enough mashed potatoes. She made enough for 4 people and there's usually about 18 of us, and the kids were ready to declare war. Or how about the year there was a communication snafu of what to bring? There was one 9" or 12" pie per person = 18 pies. OK, an over abundance of pies isn't such a bad thing, but there were no green beans, cranberry sauce, salad or sweet potatoes. Then there's the time thing. What time is everyone showing up? One year my mother-in-law told everyone a different time to show up. Good times.

The funny thing about the missed mashed potatoes or the plethora of pies (and what ever else happened) is that, as a family, we will fondly remember those Thanksgivings. We were all together for one day, and that's all that mattered.

Leslie,
That's because I left out the drama that accompanied the stories!

Katie,
There's just something about Alan Jackson's voice that is so warm. Winner! Our family are major mashed potato eaters. Everything else is secondary.

NSM,
I guess every family has their stories, but Thanksgiving truly is all about getting together.
