Tell Me Why

Side-lined....

We're slammed with the stomach flu here -- well, just me and my daughter. I thought I was over it but, no. I sooooo don't need this right now! Too much to do and no energy. Sure, my weight is dropping but it's not healthy weight loss and I feel like crap.

On a more positive note, it's not blazingly hot outside. I may go sit in the backyard and eat my crackers and drink electrolytes...

House stuff
Finally, a room that doesn't look like a construction zone!!! Prior to the estate sale, this room, which is the dining room, was knee deep in junk, plus stuff piled on my grandmother's dining room table and all kinds of nic-nacks crammed in the built in hutch. This is a freshly finished dining room. The floor is in decent condition because it had an area rug under the table, but it still needs some light sanding and a few coats of polyurethane. The chair is from my grandmother's dining room set and I placed some of my own things in the hutch just so it would show up in the picture. I still need to purchase new handles for the hutch, but it's really clean looking.

Next on the list of things to do is the floor. My uncle did not do a lot of maintenance on the house, and did quick fixes, such as the linoleum on the kitchen floor. Yep. This is the kitchen floor with staples in the linoleum. We have selected ceramic tile that looks like travertine(sp?) -- and the linoleum with staples will be just a memory in this picture.

This is the range top, now placed where the refrigerator used to be. The former range used to be in the middle of the kitchen, which took up too much floor space and made it rather cramped. We've actually used the range for hot water, for tea.
I didn't get a picture of where the refrigerator will go, but hubbie had to rip out an entire cabinet to accommodate what ever refrigerator we end up with.

Just to the right of the range is a small work space where the electricians put a new, 4 plug outlet. The electricians put a lot of holes in our walls to make room for all of the upgrades, plus bringing everything "up to code." We have a few places to patch that look like this...

Sure, I'd love to rip out ALL of this yellow tile and put a granite backsplash and countertops, however, the budget doesn't allow for it at the moment, as we're just trying to get everything functional, for now... We're becoming pretty good at patchwork. The old yellow tile will be replaced with other old yellow tile that a friend saved from their bathroom demo -- it just happened to match our kitchen tile.

Stay well.

Peace

Barbie2b,
Thanks! I love that it's a built in!

Evelyne,
Thanks! This is just the beginning... There's so much more to do. I guess the flu bug is going around.

Katie,
Feeling a little bettter today, thanks. I wanted to post more pictures but blogger was being tempermental...

Connie,
Thanks for visiting! The staples in the floor were just the top of the iceberg... With all the quick fixes my uncle did, I'm surprised he didn't burn down the house! You should have seen all the extension cords... Yikes! I love the hutch, too. ;)

Cherie,
The flu is running it's course... I'm feeling better but my appetite isn't quite back yet. I love the hutch because it's big enough to hold an entire set of dishes below.

Oh, NO! That's the worse thing on earth to be stricken with. I'm sorry you're sick and hope you're better soon.

But on a happier note.....that room is beautiful! It is so clean looking, the colors are great. Very nice!
