Any Road

Activity: Run
Date: 07/11/09 06:49 AM
Distance: 6.02 miles
Time: 1:01:09
Speed: 5.9 mph
Pace: 10' 09 min/mile
Calories: 575

Another great track club run complete! I ended up running the route around the island because the Silver Strand route was more for the people who are running in the AFC half marathon next month, and I really didn't need to put in THAT much mileage. I was perfectly happy with the 10K I put in, besides, Coronado is such a pretty community and I didn't mind running down the quiet, shady neighborhood streets. We also had some humidity being pushed up from Mexico, at about 85%, so most of us were pretty well drenched in sweat by the time we were done. We're used to very dry weather here, and I had to pay close attention to how I was breathing so my asthma wouldn't pose a problem. One of my running friends commented that my running form looks more fluid, less stiff, and that's a good sign. Since I can't see myself run outdoors, I have to rely on what others tell me, and it sounds like I did OK with form today, but I wasn't fatigued, either. Even though, I still have plenty of work to do.

SPLITS
Mile 1 10:01
Mile 2 9:55
Mile 3 9:51
Mile 4 10:30
Mile 5 10:15
Mile 6 10:16
End 14:11 (extra time for fumbling to turn off the GPS)

It was absolutely gorgeous this morning. I really need to keep an inexpensive digital camera in my car at all times. My cell phone pictures just don't do justice to any gorgeous scenery. We began the run at the same place as last week's 5k/15k event, but it was sunny with a nice breeze this morning. The sun just glistened on the bay. One of the track club members was taking pictures but I don't know if he managed any pictures with the bay in the background.

Note to self: stash the cheap camera in the car.

Have a beautiful weekend!

OH...I love running around "the island." I agree, it's one of the best runs. I was so sad to miss it this morning...

This recovery thing is slooooowwwww....how did you do it?

It WAS a gorgeous morning. I wish I would have thought to snap pictures. We were on Shelter and Harbor Islands so the views of the bay and city were spectacular. I was wondering about the humidity because I was a sweaty mess before I ever felt hot.

I have never run that loop; I bet it is great. The only Coronado run I have done is the Silver Strand and, frankly, it isn't that great. Maybe we'll do the loop on our taper week.

I'm glad your running is getting better. Your splits look great!

Good job. :-)

Let us know what kind of camera you get. I don't even bother using my cell cam anymore, but I miss taking pictures on the run.

Glad you enjoyed the run as much as I did. For me, the first two miles were the best :-).

Wow! 600 runners in Marathon training? San Diego Track Club right? That's impressive! They are obviously doing something right.

We have around 100 or so. The first week. By the time week 12 rolls around we're down to maybe 20. Plus it's a single training plan for novice runners. I died my first marathon just becuase I didn't have enough miles under the shoes...

That island must be beautiful to run around. I think I toured it by car in the 70s, driving around SD speculating on what a young Marine and a western farm girl would have done in the mid-40s in a strange town because that's where my folks met & got married during the war. I always carry a throwaway camera when I run and my best natural snapshots are early morning pix of the quiet reflective Potomac when the sky is right.

Jo Lynne,
I have an old camera I put in the glove compartment of my car!

Lisa,
If the guy posts his photos, I will try and copy those and post them here!

RunningLaur,
It is a pretty neighborhood. :)

AKA Alice,
I hope you'll be able to join us soon! You have been missed!

Lisa,
Try that loop sometimes. The only thing is to be careful around the naval base entrance. There are no stop signs there.

Sara,
Make it a point to run there sometimes! It is really pretty, even if you just run up and down the stretch of sidewalk by the beach.

Heather,
It's one of my favorite places to run.

Dori,
I have a small Panasonic Lumix that I purchased last year for about $120. Since I have a regular DLSR, the Lumix will go in the glove compartment.

Anne,
I'm not sure what it is, but I always run just a little bit faster when I run with you, and it's not like it's difficult, either. I guess we just get into a groove or something. Thanks!!!

Deene,
I like hills, too. It seems like a lot of runners complain about hills, but hill training really has helped my running.

Sunshine,
Thanks for stopping by! You have been missed. :)

Glenn,
Yes, but not all at the same time. During the RNR Marathon training season it's about 200 to 300 at a time, unless it's the train run -- and everyone likes to show up for that one. Right now there's about 125 doing the summer program.

Cami,
OK! Done, but they aren't mine. :) I did what I could.

Peter,
In the 70s Coronado was a pretty regular little town, and it was somewhat affordable to live there, but now it's prime property. It's a beautiful little community, though.
