Hard To Say I'm Sorry

Today's workout - Rodney Yee's Yoga DVD

Before I completely forget, this is a picture of my brother-in-law, George, participating in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon last month, running to the finish! Congratulatons, George!

By now, I'm sure everyone has heard about the Chicago Marathon. Since others have discussed it much better than I ever could, I won't write much about it here, but you can check out this article/opinion over at CRN, which conveys everything I'm thinking, and then some. I did call my sister who lives just outside of Chicago to hear her take on it. She agreed that it was quite ridiculous that the event organizers ran out of water and electrolyte drinks, and blaming it on the runners was rather irresponsible. She mentioned that her son, who works on Michigan Avenue, said that the streets resembled a war zone after the event was called off. I'm only hoping that the event organizers formally apologize to the runners they may have offended (if they haven't already) and learn from this event debacle so it never happens again.

There are 10 more days until my half marathon. I still want to fit in one more long run, probably tomorrow morning. For all practical purposes, I'm ready. My goal is to run the entire way, even with the hills, which I know I can do (and have done several times before.) I'm hoping that not walking will give me better finish time than my last half marathon, even with those hills. Aside from the event, I am looking forward to seeing fellow bloggers Leslie and Dori, and from the Yahoo Running group, Denise.

I *think* our internet connection is finally fixed. The electrician came back out yesterday and did more re-wiring.

Peace

Oooo, I know, I know. CHICAGO!!!!!!! That's who sang the song. Anyhoo.

Yeah, that marathon was crazy.

Congrats to your brother-in-law. Now that I'm "training" for one, it's nice to see people finishing it alive.

it's just so sad to read about the runner that passed away. i agree that it was irresponsible of the organizers to run out of fluids. what were they thinking?

I got your comment and posted the instructions on my weblog. Thanks for the heads up!

I can't find your email address (it used to be in my computer and now it's vanished!). Can you email me at leslie.gandy@gmail.com so we can figure out how to meet in SF? I don't want to miss this opportunity!

I think that it was very irresponsible of the city to run out of fluids for that big of an event. I would have to say pretty poor planning. Good luck on your up coming run, and congrats to George. Thumb Tendonitis

Train?

If they would have put misters or cooling stations right before the water stops, then people wouldn't have taken extra water. that said, putting on a marathon is very complicated.

Good luck up in SF. It should be a beautiful race.

Obtw, I have the same name as the lead singer in train, Pat Monahan.

Katie,
Winner! I picked that song for the title, but I just now realized that the band and the city (Chicago) are the same name! Duh!

Barbie,
That's the thing, they weren't thinking!

Beartoes,
Thanks for stopping by and the well wishes!

Pat,
Poor planning. Most longer events I've been at always have SEVERAL misters throughout the race. I kind of feel like the event coordinators missed the mark, knowing the heat was predicted for the weekend. What's that saying, "Prepare for the worst and hope for the best?" I kind of thought it might be a name thing! That's pretty cool!
