Run, Baby, Run

Union-Tribune 8k Race For Literacy
Activity: Run

Date: 05/06/07 07:58 AM
Distance: 5.07 miles
Time: 0:44:24

Speed: 6.86 mph
Pace: 8' 45 min/mile

Calories: 484

This was not a chipped event, so my official times are a little slower. Considering that I wasn't going for a PR, I felt pretty good about this run, especially coming off of a 20 mile run on Wednesday.

I ran with Anne for about the first mile or two, then I started to feel out of breath (damn asthma) and hubbie Michael was somewhere behind. Anne was running a great pace and finished way ahead of me. I could actually see her go through the finish line. She was easy to spot since she was wearing a bright pink top and little grass skirt. It was a GORGEOUS day, but a little warmer than anticipated. It started at Balboa Park and ended at a small park in Downtown San Diego. We couldn't find the other members of "Team Alpha, " except the coordinator of "Team Alpha" Mary Sue, so it was just the 4 of us, but it was still fun. At the end of the race I was able to stock up on free Myoplex lite bars, Lara Bars, and herbal tea packets, plus other post race goodies. My official race results are:
234 Irene M San Diego, CA 2881 F-47 44:33 F 45-49/13 697

Here's how I "decorated" the back of my t-shirt... Gotta love Sharpie markers...

The fantastic four from "Team Alpha!" Michael - M (M2 - his initials), Me - I (I'm right here), Anne - S (Silly), and Mary Sue - P (Polka dots) in front.

Michael took this photo while running on the SR 163, approaching the Laurel St. Bridge at Balboa Park.

It really was a beautiful morning.

Peace

Great job, Irene! It was such a nice feeling to run with you. Yes, next year we finish even stronger (though I too am pretty happy with our performances). That's a great picture that Michael took from the race. Describes this one beautifully.

Sounds like a fun and beautiful race! I need to move to California. You seem to have a lot of cool races out there!

I updated my blog with my race report, as you've asked. ;-)

Anne,
Likewise! Yep. Next time!

NSM,
Thanks. :) Yes, it has been toasty! They say it's going to be a dry summer in CA, too.

Barbie2be,
Winner! I guess it's time to bring the fans out of storage because we sure aren't air conditioned!

Pamela,
Sure! I'll be more than happy to share some of this sunshine!

Katie,
Thanks!

Chantal,
It was beautiful, but we were already hot and sweaty by the time the race started, and it wasn't even quite 8 am yet... Oh, thanks for the update! YOU did great!
