4 Miler

Image hosting by Photobucket

I decided to run on the gym treadmill today since I was going to be out and about with errands. Much to my surprise, there were a couple of shiny new treadmills! The "ride" was nice and smooth.

I received a phone call from a former coworker asking me to join her in the Susan G. Komen 3 day walk for breast cancer. It's in November and I would have to raise money to do this, but I'm also planning to run in the first San Jose Rock N' Roll Marathon with my brother in October. I'm not sure if I can do both.

Reality Check:

The reason why my former coworker wants to do the 3 day walk is because she had just learned that another former coworker was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. It's such a shock because this lady is the most fit, healthful, exuberantly happy person you would ever meet. I never worked with her (I was her replacement when she quit) but she did join us for girls night out.

Things that went right:
*4 miles on the treadmill at the gym, HIIT-- I did it in just over 42 minutes.
*It was cool that my friend considered me to participate in the 3 day walk with her.

Things that need improvement:

*I always want to go faster on the gym treadmill...
*Cures for cancer...

Thanks for your encouraging comment on my blog. ;P

My best thoughts go out to your former co-worker. Hopefully they caught the cancer in the early stages and she'll recover fine. It's always such a shock to learn of someone fit and healthy becoming sick. Look how healthy and fit Sheryl Crow is...

Best of luck with your marathon training. I ran the Portland marathon in 2001 for the Leukemia Society. It was an amazing experience.

Hi Irene!

Let me know if you decide to do the breast cancer walk. I'll be happy to send you a check to help you out. This disease has affected some of my family members as well and I'm more than happy to donate to a fantastic charity such as the Susan G. Komen foundation.

As to the treadmill...I like it but it doesn't like me much. I'm prone to motion sickness and it makes me feel like I just got off the Tilt-O-Whirl. I switched to the stationary bike and absolutely love it. I've been doing 4-5 miles a day on it. This working-out thing is really suiting me. I can't believe that I didn't decide to take the 'plunge' earlier.

I hope I live to see the day when the cure for cancer is discovered.

Take care,
Angie

Angie,
I'm not sure if I'll be participating in the 3 day walk yet, mostly due to logistics, but I'll keep what you said in mind... That's really kind of you. If I don't participate I'll be helping my friend raise money.

I didn't start out on the treadmill, either. I felt nice and safe on the bike. Motion sickness and running do happen. I've seen people get sick at a night run event I went to...

Good luck with working out!
