Finally Friday

YESTERDAY

No workout.

I went to work yesterday and it was an OK day. The guy they interviewed turned out to be great, but he has to give notice at his current job, so he won't be starting for another two weeks. I go back to work on Monday, and it's going to be mayhem. The new girl double booked patients for both doctors, which is tough when we're down a tech. Oh well. It's safe to guess that I probably will be working overtime and not get in a workout or run on Monday.

I went to lunch for sushi with two of the doctors. I don't know if I've ever posted about the sushi burrito before, but it is sooooooooo good! I'm not 100% sure what else is in it besides the tempura shrimp and crab meat, avocado, bean sprouts , cilantro, other veggies, a small amount of cream cheese, and wrapped in a soy bean wrapper, and it comes with it's own special dipping sauce. It's not on the menu. My boss found out about it through the owners, and if you ask for it they'll make it. Definitely not a "clean" meal but I suppose it was better than going out for burgers. I'm suprised I didn't have issues with the cream cheese. No itchy skin. THEN, later that evening I went to dinner with my hubbie at the little fish market just down the street. I was still full from lunch so I did OK with fresh ceviche, which was served in a cocktail glass (small serving) and a small cup of sea food stew.

TODAY

My friend who ran with me the other day wants to run again today. We'll see. He works the graveyard shift so it all depends on when he can get up and get going. If he does get up and going, I hope to do better on my run with him. This weekend I have to get my husband out to do a long run since the half marathon is NEXT week.

There's some creepy guy out here harassing women as they run. I've heard (on the news) a couple of stories about women being harrassed by a guy over at Mission Trails Park, very close to where I used to do most of my running before we moved. In a couple of instances he tried to grab the women, but they were able to get away and others called police. The best piece of advice (from the news article) was to not run alone and be very aware of your surroundings.

EDIT
Ran with my friend. Did much better!

Big Empty

Yesterday

Distance: 3.01 miles
Time: 0:29:25
Speed: 6.1 mph
Pace: 9' 46 min/mile

A really good friend of mine wanted to run yesterday morning, so he picked me up and we drove down to the bay, where the run path is concrete paved and mostly flat. He only needed to put in a 3 miler, since he's just getting back into running. (FYI - he used to be my personal trainer a while back). I have been feeling really drained the past few days and I was hoping I could get my 3.1 mile (5k) pace in gear, which is in the 8:30 to 9:00 minute mile range. I couldn't get my body in gear. It was just so hard to get myself going. It was a gorgeous morning to be out running but I just didn't have "it." Perhaps I'm still recouping from that 8 mile run at Balboa Park, but this morning's run tanked. This run should have been "easy." It wasn't. As for my friend, he ran in "my" usual 5k range. I should have been able to keep up. I could see him way ahead on the path... I'm was also having computer issues yesterday, so it took FOREVER to get into the internet, and I couldn't post in Blogger.

Monday I was back at the office. The new girl is working out great, which has helped with office morale. I'm hopeful that the guy they interviewed yesterday knocked their socks off and accepted the position. This whole ordeal of not finding qualified techs has been rather draining on everyone.

BTW, I really liked wearing the running skirt at the event on Saturday, If anyone is wondering, they are really comfortable and received a lot of nice compliments...

Today
UBW - Bowflex
Lat tower- 3 grips, cable rows, incline flys & presses, kickbacks, incline cable crunches.

I've signed up for a challenge on Pinkdumbbells.com. It's the "You Are What You Eat Challenge." This challenge couldn't have come at a better time. My eating habits of late have been less than stellar. Here's what I entered on Pinkdumbbells.com:

1) Name: Irene

2) Food: To pay better attention to my eating habits. My running performance has tanked and food is probably a huge part of it, and I want to shed (and keep off) the additional few pounds that keep creeping back... My tummy pooch came back! UGH! I've been rather lax in eating way more processed carbs (foods made with white flour, dairy, packaged & manufactured foods, etc) and foods that I should stay away from, which are high in the wrong fats and unecessary sugars, etc. I need to get back on board with whole grain carbs such as rice and oatmeal, more fresh fruits and veggies, more lean proteins, and more water. Reward: I've just purchased (on sale ) a pair of black Adidas Running shorts with the three red stripes on the sides and a red wicking material t-shirt to match. I'm going to hold off on wearing them until I shed those few last pounds, which SHOULD be by the end of this challenge. If I don't meet my goals, then I don't get to wear the new clothes until I do. The shirt is also a size smaller than I normally buy, and it's a little tight now, so that's an added motivation.

3) Starting stats to come, maybe even pictures.

4) My initial goal is to get out of this rut I'm in. I have zippo motivation right now and I'm just sort of going through the motions of what I initially set out to do, which is run in one event each month this year, for at least 12 events. I'm burnt out and tired, not so much from running but other things in my life. I'm hoping that changing my foods back to healthier choices will improve my outlook and running. I've also purchased "The Bean" just because it's something different. The website is kinda silly to me, but, what the heck? Yeah, I know I probably don't really need it, I have plenty of workout equipment and gym membership, but it wasn't too expensive, it's a new gadget. Besides, I have 30 days to return it.

Other stuff
I had to return one of the running skirts I just bought. Runningskirts.com accidentally sent me a teen sized skirt, which probably fits a 12 year old. I don't think I could even get that on past my calves! Any way, I returned and exchanged it for the correct size. Since they no longer had that same color (Pinky-Maroon), they sent me my next choice of Lilac-Plum. The return transaction was fast and I think I actually prefer the Lilac-Plum color combo.

Happy Trails

Activity: Run
Date: 08/04/07 07:30 AM

Time: 1:23:30
Speed: 5.9 mph
Pace: 10' 12 min/mile

Today was the San Diego Track Club's 8 mile run and 3 mile walk/run through Balboa Park. My posted time was 1:24 and change. I'll edit in the official time when the SDTC posts the final results on their website. The above time was from my Wireless Run Tracker. I still felt good with my finish time, either way, because one of the hills had a grade that was just too steep, and most everybody in front of me walked up it -- I was not alone. The run went on paved roads and dirt trails though and around Balboa Park, and ALMOST in the San Diego Zoo. We ran past some of the concessions at the zoo entry. My husband ran in the 3 mile course, but there was a directional snafu on the trail, so some ran 3 miles and others ran a "bonus" mile, for a 4 mile run. My husband ran the bonus mile. He actually did fine, even with a sore hip. I had the wonderful opportunity to run with Anne again. After the last steep hill on the way to the finish line, she put her legs in gear and went even further ahead of me. I finished with a very nice gentleman, in his 60's, who said he was pacing with me. Ironically, I was pacing with him. I figured that if I stayed with him I would be in pretty good shape.

8/11/07 EDIT - Final results 174 IRENE M 48 8/11 F SAN DIEGO CA 1:24:12 10:32

Here's Anne, running to the finish!

That's me, finish line in sight!

And there I go...
Since my husband finished his 4 miles well before I finished my 8 miles, he was able to man the camera for a while.

In a "random" drawing, I came away with a $20 gift certificate for a local ice-cream shop. It really wasn't too random. We just had to stand around with our race numbers on . One guy pointed at me and said "pick her" so they did.

By the way, I wore my running skirt from runningskirts.com that came in the mail just a day after ordering and in time for today's run event, but they're located just 30 minutes up the interstate....

Now it's time to paint walls!

Peace

The Name Game

Yesterday
UBW, moderate weights on the Bowflex for circuits - 6 sets, 20 reps, lat tower, chest presses & flys, upright rows, and kickbacks, bench dips ( but did 6 sets/10 reps of those).

Food was off on Monday. I have a list a mile long of all that went downhill with the food. 'Nuf said. I did much better yesterday.

I'm back at work already!!!! They let go of one of the techs who was still on probation. She said she knew she wasn't "getting" the job so she had been looking elsewhere

Today
Activity: Run
Date: 08/01/07 09:44 AM
Distance: 3.11 miles
Time: 0:32:44
Speed: 5.7 mph
Pace: 10' 31 min/mile
Calories: 293

I ran up the hill and beyond. There's the hill that I've been running up that has a pretty steep grade, but there is more of a hill climb after that hill, so I decided to tackle part of it. The hard part is that there's still more hill after that, and I haven't even tried that yet. It's tough but I figure if I can can conquer those hills, most other runs will be a piece of cake. I think I had mentioned before that one of my neighbors said that the Marines have been known to run up those hills for training...

I think I'll be ready for my 8 mile run this Saturday.

Guess what??? It's time for the list of winners for: "NAME THAT ARTIST /BAND/COMPOSER/MUSICIAN/ETC." For those of you who haven't played yet, it's pretty simple. I title my blog posts with song titles. Be the first to correctly guess who recorded/performed the song, post your answer under "comments," and if you are correct, the glory is yours.
