Peace

Monday night I was watching some mindless TV* and had a revelation.  I realized that I felt good.  I almost forgot what feeling good felt like.

My eyes were no longer puffy and allergy affected.

My body didn't ache.

My mind was clear.

I was relaxed.

I also went for a run earlier in the day, on Monday, and my run felt good.  My runs almost always feel good, even a crappy run is a good run, but this was different.  I felt more aware and more in control.  I think it's time to crank up the running and be a little bit more competitive again.  Cruising is fine, but I'm getting the energy back to push myself again.

Aside from not feeling sick and running better, I also noticed that my animals are happy that I'm home.  They will not leave my side.  On Tuesday we all sat on the back porch to watch the sunset.**

Actually, I sat on the back porch and watched the sunset, the dog was at my feet, one cat was on my lap, and the other cat was sitting behind me.  I wished I had been able to photograph that moment.  It was peaceful.

I'm sure the people in my house appreciate that I'm not cranky and tired all the time.  They just don't glue themselves to me.  Heh.

** Actually, a sunset photo from another day, but I needed a sunset photo from my back yard.  I didn't want this blog post to be picture-less.

Symphony No. 6 in F Major, Op 86 "Pastoral"

Lately, I sit at the computer thinking I should blog about something, but it's just not happening. It's the same old thing. I have plenty on my mind, but the words aren't formulating. It's sort of like I'm stuck. I'm sure this has to do with not being able to run, and my mind really hasn't shifted gears. No running = no blogging.

Since I'm busy not running, I've been taking a lot more pictures, gardening, and have been taking pictures of gardening. Honestly, I'd rather be running, but I can get really aggressive when it comes to digging and pick axing the huge plot of soil that occupies a good portion of our backyard. I've also become acquainted with a family of Blue Jays that have declared our backyard their territory. My dog isn't too thrilled about this occupation.

"She's up there. Maybe if I bark long enough they'll all go away?"

They're not going anywhere. This one is quite good at taunting the dog.

As part of a homework project and in leu of Earth Day, I've spent some time with the kid showing him how to seed some plants:

K-Cups, not just for coffee. He's carefully peeling the foil from a used cup.

Adding the used coffee grounds to the soil.

Scraping out more coffee grounds.

Adding the soil to the K-Cup.

See?

Sweet Peas are a good choice.

Just add water.

We don't want to forget what we're growing!

Now we wait.
To be continued...

I'm Not Running Anymore

... At least for two weeks.

Question of the day:

Why is it when I have a morning to just sleep in, all of the animals (three cats and one dog) go nuts and want in or out HOURS before I was supposed to wake up? *sigh* When one wants out, then they all decide to go out, but not all at the same time. Then they all want back in, and not at the same time, either. We really need one of these:

Not the kid and the dog, the doggie door... We already have a kid and a dog, thankyouverymuch.

So much for sleeping in. I think the only way I could ever sleep in (any more) is if I were on vacation by myself, but how much fun would that be? Wait, don 't answer that. A day of alone time could be total bliss and recharge the battery...

My right foot is still rather sore and I'm going to take time off of my feet from running for the next couple of weeks, just to be on the safe side. No running means no track club this week and perhaps part of next week. I'm also taking it relatively easy at home and doing the R.I.C.E. thing for the foot when I can, and that helps quite a bit. This little foot issue hasn't deterred my sports therapy, though, as I'm able to work around it by doing alternate forms of the same exercises. I can still do most of the exercises except any form of pylometrics.

I'm not Irish, but I still make corned beef and wear green on St. Patty's day.

I Am The Walrus

I went to Sea World on Friday just because I didn't get in enough touristy stuff while on the cruise...

Meet Obie. He looks more like Jabba the Hutt.

Seriously, though... My husband and I were invited to Sea World with my office. We also had a behind the scenes tour of one of their exhibits, which was more fun than watching some of the shows. I had arrived a little late because my car battery was dead, so I missed out on petting the beluga whales, but I did get to meet Obie and feed him fresh fish. I've never fed a walrus before, and he just sucked up that fish with one big slurp, as if he were a vacuum cleaner. Here's Pinky (in the pink shirt, duh!) right after Obie slurped up a fish.

Other stuff...
I almost forgot to mention that we met Meghan (from PDB) while we were in Orlando, Florida. Meghan couldn't attend the cruise, but joined for dinner a day prior to sailing. We also forgot to take photos with Meghan. Ah well... There will be a next time.
