If You Love Me Like Music, I'll Be Your Song

I have a song request.

I'm putting together a playlist to get me through the last 6 miles of the marathon. Here's where I need your help. I'm asking, pretty please, to select ONE song for me to put on my playlist that will get me through those last 6 miles of the marthon. I normally don't run outdoors with an iPod, but if past experience is any indicator of what my state of mind is during those last 6 miles, I will need to dig down deep to bring it in. In addition, when I hear that song I will think of you, and run those song minutes dedicated to you. I listen to just about everything, so don't even think about what I would like. Think about what you like and what gets you pumped or motivated. I like just about all genre's of music.

And, finally, here's the last picture of me at our last long run with the track club. Can you find me?

I had a hard time finding me!

I'm right here...

Saturday's song:

Keep The Faith, Baby - Tony Bennett

PEACE

My song for you is Crazy by Seal. Because in a world full of people only few dare to fly. You are one of those people who dare!

You know, this is a hard one for me because I have a lot of power-songs for points like that in a run... like AC/DC - Thunderstruck, Tom Cochrane - Life is a Highway, Paramore - Crushcrushcrush, Nickelback - Burn it to the Ground (my favorite for that extra kick right now, but it has cussing in it, so I'm not sure how you feel about that. If you don't mind it, then I would say this one.)

Okay, this is totally cheesy and please don't judge me but If You Seek Amy really gets me moving. I think it's the beat and definitely not so much the words, but there is something about that song.....

Ok...so I have 2 songs that really pump me up and that I can listen to over and over and over again: Foo Fighters-The Pretender and Silver Sun Pickups-Panic Switch....they do it for me....maybe they'll inspire you and give you energy!!

I have a ton of get-up-and-go type of songs that I love, but I think that you'll get a lot of those. I'm going to suggest something completely different. When I need a second wind, I like to change the tempo and change my energy. My favorite song to do that is "Time to say goodbye" by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli. It is very powerful. When I was using Nike+, it was my power song and I actually listened to it while running to the finish line at RNR last year. It gives me chills. See what you think...

My suggestions are "Hold on Tight" by ELO and "Rescue Me" by Fontella Bass. Then there's also that old stand-by "Gonna Fly Now" by Bill Conti.

Do let us know what you decide on, and good luck!!

When I need to push through the end of a run, I crank up "Better Life" by 3 Doors Down.

I have a ton of songs that pump me up while running, but lately I've appreciated Beautiful Day by U2.

For some reason, this song makes me happy. Happy me = happy runner:

Come On, Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners

I know it is, like, totally '80s but it's, like, so rad. And the best part is, you can change it to "Come On, Irene. ha ha ha

Note to self: Bring iPod for the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon.

Paul Oakenfold, Ready Steady Go. It's got a good uptempo, and it's always worked for me to pick me back up no matter how tired I am.

Oh, and of course the Training Montage song from Rocky IV, the one where he fights Drago. At the end of the song, he runs up the mountain.

Because of Wii's Rock Band, I am a new lover of classic rock. So my choice would be Any Way You Want It or Don't Stop Believing. And when those come on, think of Brian Jr singing it quite loudly for you.

I hope you post your list because once I get an iPod again I'm going to need to upload a whole bunch of songs.

for the last six miles of my marathon run, i did not want happy, cheerful tunes. i needed something to reach down to the deep dark and skanky so my suggestions would be:

Dirty Laundry - Don Henley
Mercedes Benz - Janis Joplin

we'll be thinking of you. what time do you expect you'll be at mile 21?

Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf:

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Oh yeah, that'll get you there--maybe.

I spotted you right away...once I realized you weren't Fernando or one of the women in the forefront.

Be sure to let us know what made the playlist and especially if it ended up helping.

Thanks so much for all of the songs! I'm so excited to have them all as a part of my SDRNR Marathon 2009 play list!

I am soooooo late to this, (nutty week...finals...blah, blah, blah)

If you can still add to to your playlist, here's my suggestions.

Edie Brickell - What I Am (not the lyrics so much, but the beat is AMAZING to run to)

Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) - because seriously, after mile 20 isn't that what you're doing anyway?

I think we'll be in three places. Downtown...around Crown Point and on Friars Road (cuz it sucks)...I'll be looking for you. What's your pace?

AKA Alice,
Nope, you're not too late!
